Tailormade Tigers

(flexible duration, starting/ending point) >> more details

TigerIndia's flagship species deserves special attention, hence Tailormade Tigers which focuses solely on this magnificent mammal.  Occurring primarily in India and Bangladesh the Royal Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) is the most common of six surviving subspecies, with India's estimated 1706 individuals around half of the total world Tiger population.  Tailormade Tigers offers the flexibility to choose from a network of reserves that span the country, a range of viewing techniques (open jeep, elephant-back, even on foot), and habitats from Sal forest to mangrove swamps - let us create your Tiger tour around your choices.

Tigers of Kipling Country

Bandhavgarh - Kanha - Pench

(15 days, starting/ending in Delhi) >> view itinerary

TigerIndia's central heartland is true Tiger country, with a cluster of some of India's finest Tiger reserves protecting prime Tiger habitat, and some of the best prospects of Tiger encounters in the country.  This tour combines visits to the three Tiger Reserves that currently provide the most consistent sightings in India - Bandhavgarh, Kanha and Pench, to maximise the chances of a sighting.  Game drives and elephant-back safaris traverse a variety of habitats from rugged hills to undulating plateau grasslands in the region that inspired Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book, with a wealth of other wildlife and photographic opportunities.

Untamed Tigers

Tadoba - Pench - Satpura

(12 days, starting/ending in Mumbai or Delhi) >> view itinerary

TigerThis tour again focuses on Tiger rich central India and offers a good chance of an encounter with wild Tigers, however this itinerary embraces visits to the lesser-known Tiger Reserves of Tadoba, Pench and Satpura.  At Tadoba and Satpura in particular the limited availability of accommodation means that visitor numbers are noticeably lower than at Kanha and Bandhavgarh and the wilderness experience is unparalleled.  Satpura also offers the unique opportunity to track wildlife on foot with trained naturalists, enabling a thorough appreciation of an environment where the Tiger is part of a fascinating wider natural history.

India's Big Cats

Gir - Kanha - Pench

(15 days, starting/ending in Mumbai) >> view itinerary

LeopardIndia is the only country on earth where it is possible to see 3 out of 4 of the world's true big cats (Panthera), and this tour provides the rare chance to catch up with all three - Asiatic Lion, Tiger and Leopard - in a single itinerary.  The tour begins in Gir National Park in the west coast state of Gujarat, whose deciduous forests host the last remaining population of the highly endangered Asiatic Lion, before continuing on to the rolling grasslands of central India.  Kanha and Pench are two of the most consistent reserves in the country for a sighting of Tiger alongside the somewhat more elusive Leopard, a host of smaller mammals and a good variety of birds.

Corbett's India

Corbett National Park

(10 days, starting/ending in Delhi) >> view itinerary

Corbetts_IndiaThis tour allows a comprehensive appreciation of the rich biodiversity of Corbett National Park, India's first, and one of its finest, national parks and the launch site of the ambitious conservation programme Project Tiger.  Corbett is nestled against the foothills of the western Himalaya, its undulating terrain dominated by mixed deciduous woodland and dissected by perennial rivers, making it unuquely picturesque and a haven for a an impressive number of species.  Key species include Tiger, Asian Elephant, Wild Boar, Hog Deer, Gharial, and over 580 species of bird, including the highest diversity of raptors anywhere in India.

Wildlife of Assam's Brahmaputra Basin

Manas - Nameri - Kaziranga

(15 days, starting/ending in Delhi or Kolkata) >> view itinerary

Water BuffaloThe Brahmaputra, one of Asia's major rivers, flows the length of the state of Assam in India's northeast corner before coursing through Bangladesh into the Bay of Bengal.  The river and its fertile alluvial plains are vitally important to wildlife, supporting species such as Asian Elephant, Asiatic Wild Buffalo, and Indian One-horned Rhinoceros in obvious abundance, as well as Tiger and Barasingha.  The land around the vast swampy grassland gradually rises into undulating sub-Himalayan forest that supports Hoolock Gibbon, Assamese Macaque and Capped Langur, while this region is one of the most significant Endemic Bird Areas in the whole of Asia.

Specialities of Gujarat - Blackbuck, Asiatic Lion and Asiatic Wild Ass

Velavadar - Gir - Jamnagar - Little Rann of Kachchh

(12 days, starting/ending in Mumbai) >> view itinerary

LionThe state of Gujarat is of enormous ecological significance as a home to some of the subcontinent's most endangered and distinctive mammals, and it is these which form the focus of this tour.  The tour begins in the vast savannah grasslands of Velavadar, home to the endemic Blackbuck, before exploring the deciduous forests of Gir, the last stronghold of the endangered Asiatic Lion, and finally heading into the seemingly inhospitable salt desert environment of Kachchh, home to Asiatic Wild Ass.  An impressive diversity of birdlife, including thousands of overwintering cranes, flamingos and pelicans will complement these primary targets throughout.

India's Big Five

Gir - Kanha - Kaziranga

(16 days, starting/ending in Mumbai/Delhi) >> view itinerary

RhinoIndia's greatly varied eco-regions, from the tropical forests of the south and vast grasslands of the central plateau through mangrove swamps, extensive deserts and montane forest to the high altitude ranges of the Himalaya, make this one of the most bio-diverse countries on Earth.  The term 'big five' is more generally used in the context of an African safari, but here we apply it to the most sought-after of India's large mammals - Tiger, Asiatic Lion, Leopard, Asian Elephant, and Indian One-horned Rhinoceros - that can be found in three of the country's finest reserves, Gir, Kanha, and Kaziranga, alongside an array of other mammals and birds.

India's Primates

Manas - Gibbon - Anamalai
